  • What is GreenEarth® Cleaning?

GreenEarth® Cleaning is the most environmentally-friendly dry cleaning process available today, and it is available in Nashville and the surrounding area at Oakwood “the Greener” Cleaners. GreenEarth® Cleaning - Good for your clothes, Good for people and Good for the Earth.

  • Is GreenEarth® organic?

No. And that is a good thing. There is nothing green about organic dry cleaning. “Organic”, as it relates to chemistry, refers to anything with a carbon backbone. Gasoline and asphalt are organic. Dry cleaners who market themselves this way are misleading the consumer

GreenEarth® Cleaning replaces petroleum-based solvents that are commonly used by most dry cleaners today with liquid silicone, a gentle solution made from one of the earth’s safest and most abundant natural resources: silica, or sand.

Silicone has been around for a long time and has a wide variety of uses. Its application to dry cleaning was discovered when a scientist working with a solution used in cosmetics, realized it removed the fats and dirt from his hands without drying them out. With further experimentation, he found it could do the same for clothes. This process was patented and now forms one of several baseline patents for the GreenEarth® Cleaning system. It cleans as effectively as traditional dry cleaning without costing more to operate. Even more remarkable, it can actually improve the look and feel of fabrics. While petroleum-based solvents clean effectively and affordably, they can be hard on fabrics and harmful when not used properly.

With GreenEarth® Cleaning, you can see the difference for yourself. Colors won’t fade, and whites won’t gray or yellow, even after repeated cleaning. Everything feels better too. Fabrics are smooth and silky, and sweaters feel soft and supple again. And because clothes cleaned the GreenEarth® way aren’t bathed in perchloroethylene (perc) or other petrochemical solvents, they come back fresh and clean without an unpleasant “dry cleaning” odor.

There’s also a scientific reason why clothes look and feel better with GreenEarth®. Liquid silicone is chemically inert, meaning it doesn’t interact with fabric fibers. It just carries the detergent to your clothes and gently carries away the dirt and oil. That’s why it’s safe for even the most delicate garments, including beads, delicate lace, silk, and cashmere. And, unlike many dry cleaning methods, GreenEarth® won’t cause shrinkage.

GreenEarth® is also safe for the air, water, and soil. The GreenEarth® Cleaning process is non-toxic and non-hazardous. When released into the environment, it safely breaks down into its three natural elements, sand (SiO2) and trace amounts of water and carbon dioxide.

GreenEarth® is safe for people too. You can safely rub the product on your skin and in fact, you probably already do. Liquid silicone is the base ingredient in many everyday shampoos, conditioners, and lotions.

GreenEarth® has partnered with a number of leading companies, including Procter & Gamble, General Electric, Xeros, and the industry’s foremost detergent and equipment manufacturers, to ensure the most cutting edge expertise in the care and cleaning of fabrics using liquid silicone technology.
